DUO Design is proud to be a sponsor of Modern Phoenix Week 2016, April 1st-10th. We, at DUO, have a slight infatuation with modern design and architecture. Whether it be contemporary or mid-century, we are all about it. And, we love sharing this passion with our community! It brings us great pleasure to be able to contribute to this event in our hometown.
Modern Phoenix Week has become the cornerstone of all things design in Phoenix for the last twelve years. Bringing together industry experts, community leaders, and design lovers around the The Valley, Modern Phoenix Week features tours, events, presentations, and interactive opportunities for all!
During it's emergence, mid-century architecture was more than just an interesting approach to design. It signified a significant movement in International and American design history. After World War II, there were a number of soldiers returning home to families that needed affordable housing. Americans were yearning for something simpler, after the desolation and destruction of war, and they rejected the elaborate designs of Victorian architecture.
Modeled after the International and Bauhaus movements, mid-century architects responded to this need with clean simple designs that integrated the surrounding landscape. The Southwest's beautiful and unique landscape became a beacon for mid-century and modern designers, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Albert Frey, Alfred Beadle, and Paolo Soleri.
The Valley has been the fortunate benefactor of so much great design and Modern Phoenix Week is our opportunity to join together and celebrate the unique beauty surrounding us all.
